Interconnecting door sets

Two rooms that can both be occupied.

An interconnecting door set is a different problem from a door to a corridor. Noise arrives from a room that is in use at the same time, through a double wall of doors. SONIG builds and tests the assembly that handles it: Rw 49 dB, and up to 54 dB with the acoustic liner.

Why it is different

A single door set is not the answer here.

Between a room and a corridor, the door set works against a wall. Between two adjoining rooms, the sound has two door leaves and the cavity between them to cross, and both rooms can be occupied at the same time. A standard guest room door set in that position will not deliver the separation the room needs.

SONIG supplies the interconnecting position as a tested assembly: two door sets back to back, frames, seals and thresholds working together, installed on the SONIG detail. Zero tolerance for a gap at the meeting point. That is the configuration we hold test evidence for.

Where it is used

The rooms that share a wall and a diary.

Hotel and resort room pairs

Family and connecting rooms where two parties occupy both sides. The operator standard usually sets the number; send it and we confirm what the assembly delivers.

Serviced apartments and aparthotels

Longer stays, more hours of occupancy, and a lower tolerance for noise passing between units.

Healthcare and clinics

Adjoining treatment, consulting or recovery rooms where both sides are in use and privacy is a clinical requirement, not a comfort one.

Meeting and event suites

Divided halls and suite combinations where the partition can open or close and the acoustic performance has to hold in use.

How it is specified

What we need from the door schedule.

Send these and we return a price, a specification and the test evidence that applies to the configuration.

  1. Configuration. Interconnecting leaf sizes and whether the acoustic liner is required.
  2. Performance. The number the acoustician or the operator standard asks for at the door position.
  3. Fire requirement. Whether the position is also a fire compartment door, stated per configuration.
  4. Finish and ironmongery. Face finish, frame type, hardware and any access control.
  5. Programme. Quantities, room numbers and the date needed on site.

Next step

Send us the interconnecting position.

A door schedule, a sketch or a photograph of the opening is enough to start. We will tell you what the tested assembly delivers and what it needs on site.
